About the company name

metta practice is the foundation of my own work as a coach

Many people have asked about the meaning of my company’s name, Metta Solutions.”  Yes, it is a double entendre.  If you hear the name verbally, most people hear “Meta Solutions.” This way of thinking about the name references “big picture” thinking, or what I call “pulling the lens back.”  While I do strive to practice this type of thinking, and to bring “big picture solutions” to bear for all our clients, “meta” is not actually the correct spelling, nor the primary meaning, of the name.  I meant to use the term “metta” and did so very intentionally, because this practice is the foundation of my own work and growth, both personally and professionally.

The practice of “metta” or “lovingkindness” is a Buddhist practice, based on the following simple prayer:

May I be happy, healthy, safe and at peace.

May you be happy, healthy, safe and at peace.

May all beings be happy, healthy, safe and at peace.

This practice serves as the foundation of all that I do in my work as a coach.  It is a prayer for self-awareness and self-care; it is a prayer that calls for the best for the “other” and for all “others.”  And it reminds us that there truly is no “other.”  We are all interconnected.

Another beautiful construction of the Metta Prayer is as follows

(with gratitude to my dear friend Sharon Stahelek)

May I be at peace, and may my heart remain open.

May I awaken to the light of my own true nature.

May I be healed, and may I be a source of healing for others.

May you be at peace, and may your heart remain open.

May you awaken to the light of your own true nature.

May you be healed, and may you be a source of healing for others.

May the world be at peace, and may the hearts of all people remain open.

May each and every person awaken to the light of their own true nature.

May all be healed, and may we all be a source of healing for one another.
